Our Church History

Background:

Westview Baptist Church (WBC) of Shelby, NC, was established after years of growing interest for a Baptist church in the West Shelby area. In 1961, the Kings Mountain Association's Missions Council conducted a survey and based on the findings, formed a committee to explore the possibility of starting a new church. The committee, led by Dr. A.B. Wood, recommended organizing a Baptist church in West Shelby, and on August 13, 1961, the church was officially founded.
Initially meeting in Oak and Graham Schools, Westview's first sanctuary was completed in 1965. Over time, the church grew, and a larger sanctuary was built in 1984. From the beginning, Westview has been deeply involved in missions, supporting efforts both locally and internationally in countries like West Virginia, Togo, Honduras, and Japan.
The church has had nine pastors since its founding and continues to focus on preaching, discipleship, and community outreach. Additionally, Westview has operated a daycare for about 40 years, currently serving 53 children.
