Core Doctrinal Beliefs

The Scriptures: We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible
Word of God. 2Timothy 3:16

The Nature of God: God is a spiritual being, a personal being, and a tri-
personal being. He is holy, absolute, unlimited, righteous, just, good, and
sovereign. Psalm 139, Isaiah 57:15, Matthew 19:26, Revelation 1:8

God the Father: He is all powerful, all loving, and all wise. Psalm 139,
Matthew 28:18, John 3:16, 2Corinthains 13:14, 1Corinthians 1:18-31

God the Son: Jesus Christ is the Son of God, yet He is God. He was
crucified for our sins, was buried, rose from the grave and abides in
Heaven with the Father. The only way to enter heaven is through Jesus.
John 3:16, 14:6, 9-11, Ephesians 1:20

God the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He
makes humankind realize their lost condition and directs them toward a life
of righteousness. The Holy Spirit gives new life to the believer and
empowers the believer to be more like Christ. John 3:3, 5; Ephesians 2:1,
John 14:16, 16:8, Revelation 3:20

Sin: Sin is a violation of God’s holy law. It is anything we do that is contrary
to the holiness of God. The consequence of our sin is death in hell unless
we repent. Romans 3:22-24, 6:23, Acts 2:38

Revelation: We believe God reveals Himself to us because He desires to
redeem us from our sins and He desires a relationship with us. John 14:21

Core Doctrinal Beliefs Continued

Salvation: The salvation of humanity rests solely in the person of Jesus
Christ. Without Christ as our mediator, we would be doomed to eternal
damnation. Because Christ took our sins upon Himself on the cross we can
have eternal life through Him. John 3:16

Conversion and the Seal of the Spirit: For by one Spirit we are baptized
into one body at conversion. We are sealed in Christ with the promised
Holy Spirit. It is a one-time event which allows all believers to share one
thing in common. However, there is a continuous filling of the Spirit which
occurs based on our obedience to the Word and to the moving of the Spirit.
1Corinthians 12:13, Ephesians 1:13; 5:18

Evangelism and Missions: It is the commission of every believer to
endeavor to make disciples of all nations. The new birth of a person’s spirit
by God’s Holy Spirit means the birth of love for others. Therefore, it is our
mission to share Christ and His love with all people. Matthew 22:37-39,
28:19-20, Luke 24:46-47, Acts 1:8

The Family: God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of
human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by
marriage, blood, or adoption. God designed marriage as the uniting of one
man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime.
Genesis 1:26-28, 2:18-25; Exodus 20:12; Matthew 19:4-6; Mark 10:6-12;
1Corinthians 7:1-16, Hebrews 13:4

Stewardship: At Westview we believe the giving of our possessions is one
way that we worship and honor God. We believe an obedient Christian will
want to give an offering to the One who became an offering for our sins.
We believe all financial offerings should be given cheerfully and with
gladness of hearts. 2Corinthians 9:6-7
